Science Olympiad

New York City  C-Division Regional Website

“New School Regional Champion” Award

The “New School Regional Champion” award will be an incentive to schools who have never participated in Science Olympiad to form teams and begin competing at the Regional level in a subset of events.  The “New Schools” designation is applied to schools who have not competed in the last five (5) regional competitions and to encourage building a team and a coaching staff that is better able to compete across the full slate of Olympiad events in future years.

The “New School Regional Champion” for 2019 will be awarded to the school who has not registered to compete in at least five (5) years in (has not competed since 2014) and  scores the lowest combined point total in the following 10 events:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Astronomy
  • Boomilever
  • Chemistry Lab
  • Designer Genes
  • Dynamic Planet
  • Experimental Design
  • Water Quality
  • Wright Stuff
  • Write It / Do It

“New Schools” may register teams with up to 15 members and may choose to compete in:  (1) only the above 10 events, (2) all Regional events, or (3) any number in between as their program develops.  “New School” teams, like all teams, will be eligible to win individual event medals and will be included in the overall team scoring spreadsheet (with No Show points awarded as appropriate).  Finally, a “New School” team may also advance to the State Finals if it ranks sufficiently high in the overall team score against all teams in all Regional events.

At the closing awards ceremony, the “New School Regional Champion” team will be recognized on stage with an award and congratulated by the Regional Coordinator.
